It’s Christmas time, and that means the man in the red suit will be coming our way soon. We’ve assembled a range of gift guides this year to help you pick something for that special someone, even if that someone is yourself! Today, we’ve got dress watches covered!

The end of the year can mean many things: the closing of a chapter, the perfect time for R&R, or perhaps the anticipation of gathering around with friends, family and loved ones for the holidays! However, it also means that Christmas is just around the corner, and with Black Friday having come and gone, time is ticking. Everyone not caught up in the shopping mania of weeks past are now scrambling for gift ideas before the 25th finally arrives!

Should the special someone (or someones!) in your life have a head for horology, then a beautiful new watch would be the perfect gift for them! If you’ve not seen them already, we’ve our Christmas Gift Guide to Chronographs as well as our Christmas Gift Guide to Square Watches on the site – make sure you check them out after this.  I’ve decided to tackle the holiday season with a more traditional approach: dress watches. Whether it be a black tie gala, a formal business outing, a romantic evening, or a graduation, a dress watch finds comfort in minimalism and extravagance in subtlety. It’s not something you’d traditionally wear every day, but you’ll be sure glad it’s there when you need to dress to impress.

The resurgence of the watch industry also means the resurgence of the dress watch, so watch brands the world over have been under the pump this year, creating some of the best dress offers we’ve seen in a long time. Releases are plentiful, and we understand that it can get extremely confusing, which is why I’m here to help you out. So, enough blabbering, and read on as I count up a variety of beautifully understated dress pieces that are sure to stun at any price point!

Timex: 1960s Marlin Series

At the lower end of the price bracket is the Timex 1960s Marlin. The unique retro design of these timepieces, with slim Arabic numerals for the quarter indexes, presents a fascinating yet fairly boujee aesthetic for the money. It’s for this reason, combined with the reliability of their automatic Miyota movement, that makes watch fans everywhere revere this series within Timex’s Marlin collection. Standing at 40mm case diameter, 47mm lug-to-lug (length), and 13mm thick, the 1960s Marlin comes in either sunray-brushed salmon, green or blue dial colours, as well as a more demure black with gilded accents. For those pursuing elegance on a budget, I couldn’t recommend them enough – especially since you can get 15% off your first purchase!

Seiko: Presage Cocktail Time ‘Mockingbird’/‘Cosmopolitan’

Really, how could I start off a list with a value proposition and not include the kings themselves? Seiko is to watches what Toyota is to cars, and their watches are no exception to the rule. One of my favourite Seiko series to date is the Cocktail Time collection, which has various coloured dials that represent different cocktails made at a bar. For the price you pay, you get an incredibly attractive timepiece that I find can be worn for practically any occasion, thanks to the reputable reliability of Seiko themselves. My recommendations would be the deep green SRPD37J1 ‘Mockingbird’ for men, or perhaps the light pink SRP839J1 ‘Cosmopolitan’ for women – but there are so many different versions, I know you’ll find one you like even more.

Tissot: Chemin des Tourelles Blue

The first Swiss watch to make an appearance here is the always-popular Tissot with the Chemin de Tourelles collection. Initially released just last year, they have taken the affordable dress watch world by storm, thanks to a value-driven, beautifully finished package.

With a whopping 80-hour power reserve, this is a watch that can worn on the daily as well as for special occasions. Like the Seiko Cocktail Time, variations are aplenty – and with so many male & female versions to choose from, it’s impossible to lose! I prefer the blue variant pictured above – but if you need a second opinion, check out the review Matt did last year!

MIDO: Baroncelli Chronometer Silicon Gent

While the Mido Commander collection is more well-known as part of this Swiss brand’s lineup, the Mido Baroncelli is perhaps more representative of the dress watch genre as a whole. This particular reference is especially stunning, as its dark anthracite dial carries a unique finishing along with it.

The dressy nature of this watch is only furthered by the introduction of rose gold on the hands and indexes – a fitting and elegant addition to this incredible sleeper hit. For those horologically inclined, the added price tag also introduces COSC Chronometer certification, meaning that this watch is a beautiful as it is remarkably accurate.

Raymond Weil: Millesime Silver

Okay – if you’ve been reading my stuff for a while now, you must be getting sick of seeing me glaze this watch to no end. Counterpoint: I don’t care, because this watch absolutely deserves it! Ignoring the absolute comeback tour that Raymond Weil is currently on, the Millesime’s addition to their lineup was both unexpected and welcome.

So welcome, in fact, that they won a GPHG Award for their efforts – the equivalent of an Oscar for watches. At a middling price point, this gorgeous watch now comes with an endless amount of colours, sizes, and complications, perfect for celebrating any special occasion. But don’t just take it from me now, take it from me in the past, when I reviewed the award winner earlier this year:

Frederique Constant: Classics Premiere

Frederique Constant, often relegated to the background of the watch industry, has been putting exceptional work into their timepieces as of late. This Classic Premiere watch is more than enough proof to verify that claim, as it is as mechanically sound as it is aesthetically. The watch is reasonably sized at 38.5mm, and features Roman Numerals for each quarter index, as well as apple-style hands reminiscent of Cartier. The movement inside – a La Joux-Perret G100 – sports a satisfying 68-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to carry on long after the party is over. For those that love a contemporary take on a tried-and-true classic, this one is surely for them.

Longines: Flagship Heritage Moonphase Green

We at WatchAdvice are pretty familiar with Longines, and we know that they are far and away one of the most consistent watch brands of all time. It may not surprise, you, then, that their standards, as high as they are, have always been consistent – a sentiment especially true thanks to the Flagship Heritage Moonphase series. The above rendition, decked out in green, is a delicate new take on the Flagship Heritage collection, and seriously proves why Longines deserves all the flowers it has received and more. Sure, the watch may not have a display case back like some of the others on this list, but if you took one look at the enamelled 18k gold medallion, you wouldn’t be complaining.

Cartier: Santos Dumont Large Black Lacquer

Speaking of familiarity, the Cartier Santos Dumont is a collection that we have reviewed on several occasions (2020 and 2024 respectively). While both of the watches mentioned here were stunning in their own right, they both pale in comparison to the demure black lacquer rendition. This version carries with it an understated aura that is matched by a scant few and, compounded with the reputation of the brand name, has been elevated to a legendary status. It’s why we’ve reviewed it so many times – and quite frankly, I can’t wait until I review it again!

IWC: Portugieser Horizon Blue

At first glance, it’s easy to write IWC off as yet another aviation-focussed watch brand. Yet, the delicately crafted yet bold Portugieser lineup stands out in contrast to the primarily utilitarian designs the Schaffhausen brand is known for. Available in all sorts of shapes and sizes, my pick of the bunch would have to be the new 40mm in Horizon Blue.

Related Reading: Legacy Of Iconic Watch Designs – The Portugieser

It effectively ticks all the boxes of what a quintessential dress watch should be: simple, yet ruthlessly engineered; subtle, yet extravagantly finished, yet obvious to those in the know. By all accounts, the Portugieser is the modern man’s dress watch.

A. Lange & Sӧhne: Saxonia Thin

You just can’t beat this. The best is – and always has been – German, thanks in part to the monumental effort that A. Lange & Sӧhne go to make the most excellent wristwatches in the world. This piece, standing at a mere 7.5mm thickness with a 39mm case diameter, represents the very best of the dress watch genre. Decked out in 750 white gold, with an aventurine dial mimicking the stars above, this rendition of the Saxonia Thin is as crazy as you can get whilst still exercising restraint. Remember, a dress watch isn’t built to grab attention but instead to attract it, and when you take one look at this you will be attracted for sure.

We’ve assembled a range of gift guides this year to help you pick something for that special someone, even if that someone is yourself! Today, it’s all about square watches…

Square watches, and we’re not talking about your more formal rectangular dress watches either, no we mean SQUARE! – they can be divisive, as not everyone loves them. But, there are some great watches out there from some of the biggest, and not-so-big, names in the industry. They can be sporty, or they can be much more dressy, but either way, no matter what your style or lifestyle is, there is a square-shaped watch out there for most tastes. So, if you’re thinking about that perfect square-shaped watch, then we’ve hand-picked 10 square watches at a range of price points that are sure to win someone over this Christmas, even if that someone is you!

Bell & Ross BR-05 Skeleton Arctic Blue

Bell & Ross are famous for their square watches, more specifically, the circle inside the square which was inspired by instrument panels on old planes – hence their tagline, Instruments for Professionals. However, their Urban collection takes this concept and refines it a little with sleeker and more modern-looking pieces, and the skeletonised BR-05 Arctic Blue takes this one step further with a skeletonised blue dial designed to look like it’s been carved out of ice. It is 40mm wide and 10.33 mm thick, so it will suit most wrists out there, Bell & Ross bracelets are comfortable, so it’s a great everyday piece for those who want something sporty and a little left of centre. The best part? It is limited to 250 pieces, so you will have something a little unique.

Cartier Santos de Cartier Green

Is there anything more iconic in the square watch world than the Cartier Santos? The Santos was the world’s first pilots watch, and wristwatch for that matter with a history dating back to 1904 when Louis Cartier gifted pioneering aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont a watch to help with his flying endeavours. These days, the Santos de Cartier is more modern, with different sizes and materials, but the DNA of the original is still there. We’ve chosen the Santos de Cartier Automatic Medium in green, hey, it’s Christmas and the green dial is perfect for the season, or anytime really. The Santos has an interchangeable green alligator leather strap as well, and with the quick change mechanism, you can swap between the two each day. A staple for any collection, or for someone who wants that one watch that can be highly versatile, worn each day and for any occasion.

Cartier Panthère de Cartier Medium Rose Gold

Yes, it’s another Cartier, but this time, we’ve chosen the Panthère medium in rose gold. Cartier is famous for their case shapes, and they do square watches so, so well. The Panthère de Cartier is having a bit of a renaissance of late as well and can be for both men and women, so it’s quite the versatile piece. Due to its size: 29mm x 37mm, with a thickness of just 7mm, it is a quartz watch, but this means it’s highly accurate and will keep ticking for many years before a battery change is needed. The Panthère de Cartier is another timeless piece that will pair well with most outfits. it dresses up casual attire and completes any formal look too. A great one to put on the Christmas wish list!

Hublot Square Bang Unico Titanium Blue Ceramic

We all know Hublot doesn’t follow the trends, they set them, and the Square Bang is their version of a square-shaped watch, with Big Bang Unico vibes. In this instance, it’s the titanium and blue ceramic version, which is a great versatile colourway, and coming in at 42mm, it’s not too big for most to pull off! It’s a bold-looking piece, but is light thanks to the titanium case and ceramic bezel, on top of that, it has Hublot’s in-house HUB1280 Unico 2 movement which is one of the smoothest flyback chronographs on the market today.

Hermès H08 Rose Gold

Hermès doesn’t get enough credit as a watchmaker. It is a typical story of a high-end fashion brand getting into the watch world, and people not associating it with pure horology. But, the leather goods manufacturer has come a long way with their watch division, now having in-house movements to the point where they are developing some amazing high complications, like the Arceau l’Heure de la Lune. The H08 Rose Gold is a great precious metal sports watch, with an 18k rose gold outer case, ceramic bezel and a black DLC titanium case back. Inside is the Hermés 1837 calibre with a 50-hour power reserve and this piece is 100m water resistant, so with the rubber strap, you can enjoy it without worry. It is a great mid-sized watch with a 39mm diameter and 42mm across the wrist, so will suit many wrists, both men and women, and the price is pretty good as well for a gold watch.

Patek Philippe Cubitus

So we had to put the Cubitus in here, it would be wrong not to! There’s been perhaps no watch this year that’s had just a mixed reception to it than Patek Philippe’s Cubitus. But, putting all the conjecture aside, it’s a decent looking square sports watch, and lets face it, there’s quite a lot of celebrities that haver been seen wearing it and we’re going to go out on a limb here and say it will be a hot watch to get…eventually. It’s wide at 45mm, but its slim at just 8.3mm and from all reports, as long as you don’t have tiny wrists, you can get away with it. Can you easily get one? No, not unless you’re already a customer, or you’re in the know, but one to put on the list anyway!

Rado True Square Open Heart

Rado is known as the Master of Materials and for good reason. The brand has been working with ceramics for decades and were one of the pioneers of it. Their High-Tech ceramic looks great and even better when polished, like this True Square in polished black High-Tech Ceramic. It’s also part of their Open Heart range, with skeletonised dials showcasing the movement underneath. Lightweight, almost scratch-proof (my wife has had a Rado True Thinline white ceramic for 10 years and still looks brand new!), water resistant to 50m and with an 80-hour power reserve, it is a good all-round watch. Coupled with this, at 38mm in diameter and 9.7mm thick, it can be worn by most wrist sizes on both men and women. Don’t like black? That’s ok, Rado has a range of colour variants to choose from.

SevenFriday CuXedo

You may not have heard of SevenFriday, it’s not a hugely well-known or popular brand, but it does have a strong following from those who know, and those who know, love it! They do some cool retro-styled pieces and in a rounded square shape for the most part and the CuXedo is a great example. With an openworked dial, rotating small seconds ring and rather than the date, a window indicating the day make this a fun watch. The animation ring is done in Damascene, a process that fuses different metals together to create a unique pattern. Sized at 47.6mm, it’s a large watch, but it’s fun and for someone who wants to buck the norm and go their own way in the watch world.

TAG Heuer Monaco Titanium Pink

What would a square watch gift guide be without one of the OG square sports watches? The TAG Heuer Monaco is a classic, made famous when Steve McQueen wore one in Le Mans over 50 years ago. Since then, it has become a classic, and the modern iterations have taken the DNA of the Monaco and made it relevant for today’s watch lover. This example is the latest Monaco released just last month and features a skeletonised dial with hot pink accents, housed in a black DLC titanium case and with TAG Heuer’s in-house TH20-00 chronograph movement with an 80-hour power reserve. Speaking from experience, don’t be fooled by the size on paper – 39mm, 47.4mm lug to lug & 15.2mm thick. This is a great watch that is super easy to wear each day, and looks great on the wrist, albeit a little different to what you may see others wearing at your local café. But that’s a good thing.

This year, we’ve assembled a range of gift guides to help you pick something for that special someone—even if that someone is yourself! Today, it’s all about chronograph watches!

The search for the perfect gift begins with the festive season well and truly among us! For watch enthusiasts and those who appreciate watches, a well-crafted chronograph is an appealing model to add to the collection. Chronograph timepieces have become a symbol of versatility, combining functionality and aesthetic appeal. This Christmas, whether it’s for yourself, a loved one, or a friend who is into watches, a finely crafted chronograph may indeed be the perfect gift.

Chronographs are timepieces that are instruments of precision and utility. When chronograph models were originally developed, they were created for pilots, racers, and divers, for whom measuring time was crucial to the profession. From timing laps on a racetrack to calculating speeds or even keeping track of everyday events, chronograph timepieces are certainly a useful tool that comes with a dose of elegance. In the modern day, however, chronograph timepieces have gone beyond their functional origins to become icons of watchmaking design.

When it comes to the world of horology, the variety of chronograph timepieces you’ll find is staggering. Brands are always trying to innovate and incorporate new designs into this iconic complication, such as innovating the simple chronograph mechanism further by creating complications such as the split-second chronograph, rattrapante chronograph or even the flyback chronograph. When it comes to aesthetic design, there is a range of styles to suit various tastes as well. From the classic two-register layouts to modern three-register chronographs or configurations like the rattrapantes and flybacks, each type offers a unique story and appeal!

When choosing a chronograph timepiece as a gift, it is essential to consider the lifestyle of the recipient. Do they love motorsports? In that case, they may prefer chronographs with tachymeters, which are reminiscent of early chronographs used for racing. Maybe they like to travel the world, so a world-time chronograph would be a perfect gift. Or maybe in their downtime, they like to go diving, for which a divers chronograph watch would suit them great! It could also be simply that they like the look of a chronograph watch; the sight of a chronograph in action, its sweeping hands measuring time with the precision of the intricate and complex movement inside, can certainly be appealing. Whatever the passion or reason, a chronograph is a great addition to any watch collection. While there are too many chronograph models released this year to list, we’ve chosen some great stand-out pieces, shown below, that will cater to a variety of tastes, preferences and budget!

A. Lange & Söhne

The flyback mechanism allows two quick consecutive time measurements, with virtually no delay between these. The chronograph is stopped, reset to zero, and started again in next to no time.

Glashuette Original

SeaQ Chronograph

The latest version of Glashuette Original’s SeaQ Chronograph has a not-so-straightforward black-and-white look. The dial features two subcounters with the outer rings being done in black, while the date window at 6 o’clock is oversized and is also done in black to stay in the colour theme. What makes this watch stand out, however, is the dial finish. The dial finish is achieved by using a galvanic silver dial that makes use of the same optical effect that cinema screens once achieved using a thin coat of silver paint: the surface reduces the dispersion of light to a minimum and enables more excellent contrast than a traditional white background.

Swatch x Omega

Moonswatch Mission To Earthphase

The Swatch x Omega was all the buzz and hype when the Moonswatch was first introduced. Since then, the two brands have slowly been drip-feeding new models into the collection. One of the latest is the Mission to Earthphase, which comes with a grey dial with a grain texture to resemble the moon’s surface. What’s cool about this edition, however, is that it boasts both a moon phase and a patented earth phase function. Two oversized moons with Super-LumiNova® (white emission) can be seen on the moon phase disc, which rotates in the subdial set at 2 o’clock. The earth phase function located in the subdial at 10 o’clock is coloured.

TAG Heuer

Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Silver Panda

Combining classic racing heritage with modern silver charm, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Silver Panda has many little details that make this one of the best Carrera models yet. While the case has the signature Carrera styling, it’s the dial that makes this watch drool-worthy. When you look at the Sunray silver panda dial, you’ll see that it has a brushed finish. Combine this with the circular engraved sub-dials and the touches of red found throughout the dial, and it quickly becomes a very aesthetically pleasing dial with a lot to offer!

10 Dive Watches Under $10,000 AUD You Can Buy In 2024 https://www.watchadvice.com.au/37366/10-dive-watches-under-10000-aud/ https://www.watchadvice.com.au/37366/10-dive-watches-under-10000-aud/#respond Wed, 13 Nov 2024 11:44:01 +0000 https://www.watchadvice.com.au/?p=37366 Ready to dive into the world of luxury timepieces? Our guide to dive watches under $10,000 will help you find the perfect blend of style, durability, and underwater performance!

Dive watches in the world of horology is a niche that is known not only for the rugged yet stylish look of the timepieces but also for the capabilities making them great every day wear watches. Dive watches were originally designed for underwater exploration, with the timepieces being specifically built to withstand extreme conditions, such a high pressure at lower water depths, all the while being reliable and able to keep precise time.

Oris Aquis Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV dive watch paired nicely with a suit!

Certain criteria sets a dive watch apart from other watch categories. A true diver’s watch will meet the ISO 6425 certification, which requires water resistance to at least 100 meters, a unidirectional rotating bezel for tracking elapsed time, and easy readability of the dial during low-light conditions (lots of lume!).. There is also additional criteria which is that the watch must also be shock-resistant and magnetic resistance. Many brands, like the watches on this list, go above this criteria, especially when it comes to water resistance, as they offer 200 meters and above quite easily. Some watches also come with additional features, such as GMT functions, making them even more versatile as they can also act as a traveller’s watch!

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional being used while surfing

With the advancements of modern watchmaking, the latest materials and technology have been utilised in making the latest dive watches, which make them highly versatile watches. Watches that you can wear while deep-sea diving and then wearing to boardroom meetings are one of the biggest appeals of these timepieces. It doesn’t have to be just for deep-sea diving either. The versatility of these watches means you can wear them to outdoor events and activities, accompanying you on that adventurous lifestyle!

Beyond the specifications of the timepieces, choosing the right dive watch involves choosing a watch that offers the right features to complement the wearer’s lifestyle. For example the strap choice can play a large part in the versatility of a watch. A stainless steel bracelet means that you wear the watch outdoors/diving while also wearing to formal functions and business meetings. Having a rubber strap means that comfortability is key, and the watch is used mainly for outdoors and everyday activities.

James Bond shows us that a great dive watch can be worn for formal and outdoor occasions!

Case material also plays a large factor in the choice of watch as well. Stainless steel cases are the common choice for its corrosion resistance. However, materials like bronze and ceramic offer different specs while also completely changing the look of the timepiece! And this is a major factor when considering the right watch. Aesthetic looks are just as important as functionality as it’s a statement piece that shows your personality and character to the world. In modern-day watchmaking, we have the luxury of having many different design styles and dial colour choices that cater to a variety of different personal preferences.

Whether you’re an avid diver, a watch collector or someone that’s after a timepiece with both stylistic looks and functionality, a dive watch under $10,000 Aud an excellent balance of performance, style, and versatility that few other watch styles can match.

Bell & Ross Diver Black & Green Bronze

The Bell & Ross Diver Black & Green Bronze is a colourful take on an stand-out diver’s watch from the brand. Being a dive watch, the brand has equipped the timepiece with a uni-directional rotating bezel, along with a simple to read dial that is also highly legible even during low-light thanks to the generous amount of Super-LumiNova on both the indices and hands.

The watch comes with 300m water resistance while also being ISO 6425 compliant, which means that Bell & Ross can officially call this a dive watch. But that’s not what makes this watch “out of the ordinary”. The dial aesthetics are just beautiful. The four main colours of the watch, teal green for the dial, black for the bezel and rubber strap, white for the Super-LumiNova and bronze for the case all work together to produce an attractive looking timepiece!

Breitling Superocean Automatic 44

Breitling’s dedicating diving watch collection is the Superocean. There’s various models in this collection that come with different case sizes and dial colours to suit personal tastes. However, we have chosen this midnight blue dial one as it offers both every day wearability alongside sporting and diving activities. The watch comes with a ceramic-inlayed bezel while also having broad hands and indexes filled with Super-LumiNova for easy readability underwater. This ceramic-inlayed bezel is also scratch proof and will never fade in colour!

The Breitling Superocean Automatic 44 is water resistant to 300 m (1000 ft) and is also shock, sand, and saltwater resistant. The rubber strap that the watch comes with gives micro-adjustability of up to 15mm which is especially handy if you are wearing wetsuits. The watch’s aesthetics are done in a way that you can wear the watch to the beach, for a swim, diving and then out to dinner.

Bremont Bamford Aurora

One of my favourite watches in this collection has to be the Bremont Bamford Aurora. Just the aesthetics alone is enough to fall in love with the piece, but it also has the mechanics to back it up as well. This timepiece was created as a collaborative project between the British powerhouse duo’s Bremont and Bamford. Not only is the watch suited for diving with a cool 500m water-depth rating, but it’s also a handy traveller’s watch with a GMT function. The GMT bezel is bi-coloured polished Sapphire with 24-hour markers to set the GMT to. The daytime hours are in green lume while night-time is done in black.

And that’s what makes this timepiece stand out beautifully. The green and black colours evoke the Aurora Borealis’ dancing ribbons of light, which the piece takes its inspiration from thanks to the handiwork of George Bamford. Another unique design feature is the hour indices, which feature a mixture of Arabic numerals, Roman Numerals, triangles, and rectangular shapes. While this design element may not be for everyone’s liking, this watch was designed to stand out, and I think these details work well to create very aesthetically pleasing timepiece!

Doxa Sub 600T

What’s a dive watch list without a classic Doxa timepiece? I have chosen the Sub 600T as the go-to model this time as it offers a whopping 600m water-resistance while looking the part! The beautiful thing with Doxa and their watches is that there is so many customisable options for the watches!

This Doxa Sub 600T comes with various dial colours and strap options. I chose to go with the aquamarine blue dial, as it just pops beautifully. Pairing it with the steel bracelet also gives it versatility, allowing you to wear it for different occasions. The Doxa Sub 600T is also the cheapest offering on this list, making it great value for money!

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

An icon when it comes to dive watches, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is a staple in any dive watch collection. The modern Omega Seamaster Diver embraces the brand’s ocean heritage, while carrying a stunning design that makes its a ideal daily wear timepiece. In fact, you can even find the Seamaster Diver 300M on the wrist of a certain 007 spy!

This particular Seamaster Diver 300M comes with a 42mm stainless steel case, with a green ceramic bezel insert with white enamel diving scale along with a matching polished green ceramic dial. The dial features the iconic laser-engraved waves which is a signature design of the Seamaster Diver models. Rated to a depth of 300m, the timepiece also features a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, which acts as a critical safeguard against the potential hazards of helium accumulation in deep-sea diving watches.

Oris Aquis Date Taste of Summer

Another dive watch that offers great value for money is Oris’s Aquis Date Taste of Summer. Oris is offering up two versions of the Aquis Date Taste of Summer. Firstly we get a red sunburst dial option with a white bezel with matching red markings, or a green sunburst dial with white bezel and matching green markings. Both versions are offered in a steel bracelet, adding to the versatility of the timepiece.

While the watch doesn’t come with Oris’s iconic calibre 400 movement, it does feature the calibre 733 movement which operates at a high-frequency of 4hz (28,800 VpH) while giving a decent power reserve of 38 hours. Rado has continuously pushed the boundaries of watchmaking by pioneering new materials into their watch collections while still keeping the timepieces affordable. The brand’s Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic collection of dive watches is a testament to this, as it features different versions of the timepiece with different materials, colours and dial aesthetics.

This version of the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic features a skeleton dial with large hour indices and hands filled with white Super-LumiNova to stand out against the movement in the background. The watch comes with a deep navy-blue ceramic case with a matt finish, along with a rubber strap in blue to match. Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver

As Seiko celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, it has been taking a trip down memory lane by revisiting some of its classic and iconic timepieces and creating modern reinterpretations of them. One such model is the Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver. This model is a recreation of a classic diver’s watch from Seiko that was released three years after the brand entered the dive watch market in 1965.

The Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver is offered in either a black dial or white dial with styling that references the 1968 model’s aesthetics. Of course, the timepiece has been updated to modern standards, as it now features the brand’s 8L35 movement that beats at a high-frequency of 4Hz (28,800 VpH) and gives out a power reserve of approximately 55 hours, while offering 300m of water resistance.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 GMT

TAG Heuer’s Aquaracer is a dedicated outdoor collection designed for an adventure lifestyle. The watch features extreme durability, water resistance, and, in this case, a caller GMT function for travellers. When compared to previous versions of the Aquaracer Professional 300, the model comes with a more ergonomic case size, re-designed dials with 3D texturing, and a movement with COSC certification.

The watch is offered in either a blue dial or green dial variant, and both colour options are stunning in their own right. We had the chance to go hands-on with the green dial (which you can read Matt’s review below), and I must say the aesthetic detail is very well executed. The dial features a cyclops window at 6 o’clock for easy viewing of the date, while the hour indices are three-dimensional and contrast beautifully against the green backdrop, providing easy readability. The green dial itself features a wave pattern, which is a reference to the seafloor currents. As a bonus to this dive watch, which is rated to a depth of 300m, is the GMT function, which is used through the green hand on the dial and the 24-hour time on the bezel.

Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue

While the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue was created for the motorsports world as it was released to celebrate the return of the Visa CashApp RB Formula One Team, the timepiece still has all the right characteristics to make it an ideal dive watch. This first is the 200m of water resistance, which is done in accordance with ISO standards. The watch also has METAS Master Chronometer certification and has been tested in six different positions. The automatic Manufacture Calibre MT5602-1U is resistant to magnetic fields and offers a power reserve of 70 hours.

With the specs aside, what I love about this watch is the colour scheme. The aesthetics of the watch mimic the livery of the Visa CashApp RB Formula One Team, and the colours as stunning! The beautiful blue dial contrasts well with the white hour indices and hands, while the black bezel and black ceramic case offers lets the dial stand out in a very appealing manner.

List of The Best Halloween-Themed Watches! https://www.watchadvice.com.au/36502/list-of-the-best-halloween-themed-watches/ https://www.watchadvice.com.au/36502/list-of-the-best-halloween-themed-watches/#respond Mon, 28 Oct 2024 08:49:39 +0000 https://www.watchadvice.com.au/?p=36502 Spooky Season is upon us! Before we strip away the skeletons and don the Christmas hats, allow me to take you on a journey through all the very best monstrous mash-ups of horology and horror!

1 – Spinnaker x seconde/seconde Fleuss ‘Fifty Phantoms’ & ‘No Apparitions’

Arguably the best Halloween-themed watch out there, Spinnaker has joined forces once again with seconde/seconde! For those who don’t know, seconde/seconde (AKA Romaric André) has built up a reputation from becoming a self-proclaimed ‘watch vandal,’ delighting in decorating vintage watches with a non-serious flair, and creating watch concepts on his Instagram page informed by current events.

André’s work nowadays is beloved by the watch community, having materialised in an innumerable amount of collaborative efforts between the likes of Timex, Squale, Airain, Christopher Ward, and even Australian brand Bausele!

One of his best works to date is his longstanding partnership with Hong Kong-based microbrand Spinnaker. This resulted in the creation of the wildly successful Fleuss ‘Fifty Phantoms’ watch last Halloween (A pun on Blancpain’s ever-popular Fifty Fathoms). So successful, in fact, that the Spinnaker website and pre-order emails completely bricked due to traffic, prompting both the brand and seconde/seconde to issue an apology, as well as a new pre-order window for a non-limited blue version of the watch.

This year, Spinnaker’s Fleuss ‘Fifty Phantoms’ makes its spooky return! It’s got a new Halloween-appropriate purple/orange paint job, and is releasing alongside a new version titled ‘No Apparitions.’ This new piece is complete with the signature adorable Fifty Phantoms on the bezel and a crossed-out yellow ghost, paying homage to the dive watches of old – particularly that of Tornek-Rayville.

Both watches stand at a universally wearable 40mm, and uses a reliable no-date Seiko NH35 movement and rated to 150m of water resistance. It’s a timepiece that is absolutely worth looking into, as the previous versions sold for just about USD$445 (approx. AU$700). That is, if you were quick enough to get into the pre-order window…

Availability: Available for pre-order until Oct 30, 8:00 PM AEST. Find out more at Spinnaker’s Official Website.

2 – Mido Big Date Commander ‘Circulo de Luz

If you’re from Mexico, South America or Spain, then you may have heard about Mido and their watches. Founded in 1916 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, the reputation that Mido has in the Latin/American market is almost similar to that of established brands in other countries. It seems that in Mexico is where Mido has found the most success, as annually since 2020 they have released incredible watches that celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

The Mido Commander Big Date ‘Homenaje,’ released in 2023.

Celebrated on November 1 and 2, those who observe Dia de Los Muertos dress up as the dead and celebrate in the streets similarly to Halloween. However, beneath the amusing tone lies a sense of deep remembrance as celebrants pay tribute to the departed, whether that be losses in the family, close friends, or locals and other respected figures.

To commemorate the occasion for this year, Mido paid tribute to the traditional holiday once again with the Commander Circulo de Luz, or Circle of Light. Since its conception in 2018, the 40mm Mido Commander has proven to be an ideal candidate for all occasions, making it perfect as a carrier for the Circulo de Luz’ many design features. Included with the Mido Commander framework is a modified date disc, a black-PVD case, and the Swatch Group’s Powermatic 80 movement – an affordable juggernaut in the Swiss watch industry.

However, the star of the show here is obvious: the brightly coloured Calavera (Sugar Skull) that adorns the dial of every Mido Dia de Los Muertos release. At night, however, is when the real show happens, as the watch has been filled to the brim with multiple colours of lume! For those that wish to celebrate the Day of the Dead, look no further than Mido to be your horological weapon of choice in this matter.

Availability: Limited to 777 pieces, International RRP CHF1,400. Find out more at Mido’s International Website.

3 – Schaumburg Watch ArtiSculpt MooN Werewolf

You’ve probably heard me go on ad nauseam about the quality of German watchmaking, but I wouldn’t be saying it if it wasn’t true. Proof of this is the very criminally underrated Schaumburg Watch, who are based in the titular district of Lower Saxony. Though they aren’t at the calibre of more popular legends like A. Lange & Sӧhne or Lang & Heyne, the body of work that they have built up whilst using third-party movements is practically unheard of among other similarly sized watch brands.

The Schaumburg Watch Blood MooN in black PVD – An honourable mention for Spooky Season!

The MooN family of watches are a particular standout in the Schaumburg Watch lineup, exemplifying the unique design and precise craftsmanship that is prevalent throughout the German brand. Their Master Perpetual MooN series, for example, only uses either meteorite or aventurine in its dials to ensure that every watch has been made to a high artistic standard.

Related Reading: What Is A Moonphase Complication, And How Does It Work?

Where they have truly outdone themselves is in the use of hand-engraved 925 sterling silver, resulting in the limited edition ArtiSculpt MooN Werewolf timepieces. The watch, standing at 43mm case diameter, is about as scary as a watch can get! The engraved dial sports the visceral depiction of a crazed werewolf, backed by a golden moonphase complication complete with the engraving of a giant bat.

Even when limited in the movement department, Schaumburg Watch has strived to go the extra mile to dazzle all manner of watch enthusiasts with the MooN Werewolf. Though rather pricey for a relatively under-the-radar brand, if you’re looking to tantalise and terrify at your next watch meetup, then perhaps consider picking this one up.

Availability: Limited to 25 pieces, International RRP €9,105 incl. VAT. Find out more at Schaumburgwatch.net

4 – Sarpaneva Supermoon

Speaking of left-field brands and moonphase complications, another watch that ticks off both boxes is the Supermoon collection from Finnish brand Sarpaneva. While not strictly a Halloween watch, I decided to include Sarpaneva for two reasons.

Stepan Sarpaneva, founder of Sarpaneva and S.U.F. Helsinki. Source: Good News From Finland.

The first reason is their horological prowess. Sarpaneva and sister brand S.U.F. Helsinki were both founded by Stepan Sarpaneva in 2003/04. This would come after he had spent extensive time working under incredible brands such as Piaget and Parmigiani Fleurier, as well as legendary master watchmakers Vianney Halter, Christophe Claret and fellow Finn Kari Voutilainen.

The noveau-Gothic design of the Sarpaneva Supermoon would first come about in the Korona K3 collection, which the Supermoon pays tribute to in both aesthetics and function. Both the K3 and Supermoon use an engraved golden double moonphase complication, sitting below a uniquely skeletonised dial, and encased in a distinctive 42mm wide, 46mm long, 11.4mm thick case. The Sarpaneva Supermoon is powered by the Swiss-made Soprod A10 automatic movement, which also includes the in-house moonphase complication also designed by Stepan.

That brings us to the other reason why I included it: It’s creepy! I absolutely adore Stepan Sarpaneva’s unique approach to watch design, but I have to admit – that engraved face of the moon gives me a bit of the chills. It’s like an artistic depiction of that Moon from Majora’s Mask, constantly watching you before it annihilates Clock Town.

The Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, looming over Clock Town’s Clock Tower. Source: Game Rant.

At the end of the day, though, while it’s not a Halloween watch per se, the Sarpaneva Supermoon collection is available for the watch enthusiasts of a particular taste. The design is singular among other independent watch brands, and stands alongside horological heroes like Kari Voutilainen as part of a small yet prominent Finnish force in the watchmaking industry. Just don’t get caught staring at that moonphase for too long, though – it’s definitely staring back.

Availability: Limited to 12 pieces per colour (blue/grey), International RRP €23,845 incl. VAT. Find out more about it on Sarpaneva’s official website.

5 – M.A.D. Editions M.A.D.1 S

Again, this watch isn’t strictly Halloween themed, but I’m sure you gave me a pass for covering the Sarpaneva too, right? Okay, thanks! I’m just assuming you did.

Anyhow, M.A.D. Editions was founded from the mind of MB&F’s Maximillian Büsser in 2021, as a response to the frustrations that not everyone could afford their incredible – and incredibly expensive – ‘horological machines.’ As part of the M.A.D. Gallery, a self-described ‘universe of kinetic art,’ the M.A.D.1 series was launched the same year to provide the wonder of MB&F’s insane mechanical know-how at a more accessible price point.

Related Reading: MB&F – Forward Motion at the M.A.D Gallery

The four editions of the M.A.D.1 were met with almost universal acclaim by the watch community, which perhaps motivated MB&F to release an all-new version at the 2024 Geneva Watch Days, equipped with a slimmer frame and a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 movement.

Related Reading: MB&F’s M.A.D.1 is Now Slimmer & Swiss!

The driver’s style time display in conjunction with the free-spinning, triple battleaxe automatic rotor make for a menacing, alien design that’s both strangely familiar and extremely fun to wear. Trust us, we know: Chamath and Sam both got ones for themselves at Geneva Watch Days, and Sam even wrote a hands-on review about the piece.

Related Reading: REVIEW: Hands On With The M.A.D.1 S

Additionally, I definitely didn’t snatch up Chamath’s one for myself to enjoy over the weekend, which gives me the confidence to say that it’s surprisingly wearable and incredibly distracting. As a kid that grew up around fidget spinners, the M.A.D.1 S is exemplary of how we never lose the enjoyment of playing with toys when we grow up – the toys we love just get more expensive. I wouldn’t know anything about that, though, as I definitely do not have Chamath’s one on my wrist right now.

Availability: Available only by timed raffle, International RRP CHF2,900. Find out more at the M.A.D. Gallery.

6 – Hublot Spirit of Big Bang x Depeche Mode

You’re probably not surprised to see that Hublot has made it to this list, but you’re probably surprised that it took me this long to talk about them. The masters of extremes, the Nyon-based brand has done it all, from using a beat-up photo of Bernie Ecclestone in their advertising to even making a watch out of denim jeans.

Bernie Ecclestone, after being mugged for his Hublot, voluntarily gave the rights for his battered visage to be used in an advertisement for a Hublot x F1 King Power. Source: Daily Mail.

However, today’s main focus is the second collaboration between the LVMH brand and the Electro/Dance-Pop band Depeche Mode. Assembled as Composition of Sound in 1980, Depeche Mode would go on to help define the landscape of 80s English electronic and synth pop with songs like Just Can’t Get Enough and Enjoy the Silence reaching global success.

Since 2010, the band has maintained a longstanding partnership with Hublot, who have released collaborative limited-editions to accompany every single Depeche Mode tour since then. Together, they have raised over USD$2.3 million for charities such as The Teenage Cancer Trust and charity:water thanks to their collective efforts.

While audacious in its own right, the newest Spirit of Big Bang x Depeche Mode is rather minimalist. Standing at 42mm in case diameter, this watch is powered by the classic HUB1710 movement with a 4Hz (28,800VpH) beat rate and a 50-hour power reserve.

It has also been constructed entirely out of sleek black ceramic, sporting a bezel of black ceramic pyramid studs, accompanied by a similarly studded black rubber strap. Similarly to Mido, the star of the show here is the black skull embedded into the watch’s dial.

This is where the Halloween themes kick in, as the watch had been made as a nod to their latest album, Memento Mori. An edgy album name requires an equally edgy design to back it up, so for both the watch and the band to use the Latin phrase ‘Remember to Die’ is definitely an intense choice. It’s pretty metal for a pop band, if I say so myself.

Availability: Limited to 100 pieces, Australian RRP AU$50,800. Find out more at Hublot’s official website.

7 – Bell & Ross BR-01 Cyber Skull Bronze

Bell and Ross in recent years has progressively come out of the woodwork. While they still produce timepieces inspired by onboard flight instruments – a style as utility-driven as it is campy – the brainchild of Bruno Belamich and Carlos Rosillo has begun to produce more contemporary timepieces of a futuristic flair. Even as recently as 2024 have the Parisian brand delved into this aesthetic, as demonstrated when Matt got his hands on the BR-03 Cyber Ceramic watch.

Related Reading: REVIEW: Hands On With The Bell & Ross Cyber Ceramic

However, there exists a collection within Bell & Ross that is somehow ever more ostentatious than the one Matt got to take for a spin.

Half Halloween, half Terminator, with a touch of Pimp My Ride: the BR-01 Cyber Skull Bronze is a shoo-in for your next Halloween celebration, albeit far into the future. The skull motif has been present in Bell & Ross timepieces as far back as 2015, with the ‘cyber’ element not being factored into the watch’s design until the end of the 2010s.

And that’s a good thing, too, as the original skull watches felt a bit too campy for my liking. The Cyber Skull aesthetic ironically helps to restrain the watch, allowing it to extend beyond being an expensive Halloween accessory. The bronze case, while not as illustrious as gold, adds a sense of refinement and class to an otherwise crazy statement piece.

Meanwhile, the in-house BR-CAL.210 movement offers some horological meat to the bones of the BR-01 Cyber Skull (pun fully intended). The skull, seemingly laughing in the face of death, is a stark reminder of the wearer’s inevitable fate. Yet, even with its spooky subtext, it is quite adorable, and has the propensity to be thoroughly enjoyed by its wearer before their time is up.

Availability: Limited to 500 pieces, Australian RRP AU$18,100. Find out more at Bell & Ross’ official website.

8 – Konstantin Chaykin Wristmons Joker Clown

Finally, I’ve saved the best for last. Russian watchmaker, inventor and all-around madman Konstantin Chaykin has been making headlines as of late, which is absolutely deserved should you know his reputation. His most recent horological transgression (in the best way!) was smoking both BVLGARI and Richard Mille in the race for the world’s thinnest watch, thanks to the introduction of the ThinKing at Geneva Watch Days 2024.

Related Reading: GENEVA WATCH DAYS: Konstantin Chaykin’s ThinKing About Breaking a World Record! (Live Pics)

However, what is likely his most popular invention is that of the Wristmons collection – a zany series of hour/minute/moonphase watches that take on the form of goofy cartoon faces. If you want a functioning mechanical watch that looks like a Zebra, a Dia de Los Muertos Calavera, DC’s Joker, or even a Despicable Me Minion, Konstantin Chaykin has you covered.

Actor Bill Skarsgård would play the iconic role of Pennywise the Clown in 2017’s rendition of Stephen King’s IT. Source: People Magazine/Warner Brothers.

For Halloween, though, it felt most appropriate to pick the limited edition Wristmons series that Chaykin created in synchronicity with the 2017 movie adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. The 42mm diameter, 13.7mm thick watch was delicately designed to resemble horror icon Pennywise the Clown, as played by actor Bill Skarsgård in what would be my personal favourite book-to-movie adaptation of all time. Everything from Pennywise’s appearance in the film was taken into consideration, from his garish yellow eyes to the unsettling red smile that stretches above his eyes.

The Konstantin Chaykin Wristmons Joker Clown would even capture the Audacity Prize from the 2018 GPHG awards!

Granted, the watch version of Pennywise is far less menacing than how he was in the film, but additional details were also taken in consideration, lest the wearer forget who exactly they were dealing with. The closed case back, for example, features a single balloon, Pennywise’s weapon of choice to lure unsuspecting children to their doom; and production was limited to just 27 pieces, indicative of the years it takes for Pennywise to return to Derry, Maine and continue his reign of terror.

This is by far my favourite watch on this list, both horologically and from a design standpoint. It’s taken my favourite book-to-film adaptation of all time, and visualised it in a way that it has effectively become my favourite book-to-film-to-watch adaptation of all time. Not confusing at all, I’m sure. On a sidenote: if you haven’t seen or read IT, I would highly advise you give the film a watch and the book a read – that is, if you can stomach horror movies, or the absolute filth that occurs near the end of Chapter 21…

Availability: No longer available, limited to 27 pieces. Find out more at Konstantin Chaykin’s official website.

Baume & Mercier Classima 10734

The Baume & Mercier Classima 10734 was released late last year as part of the brand’s unveiling of the Classima Capsule Edition collection. The collection included three different editions that stood out beautifully for their individual design. The Classima 10734 is a “technical”-“-looking timepiece with a sharp, elegant dial design. Different colours for the 24-hour scale stand out quite nicely against the dial’s standard twelve hour indices. The added GMT function adds to this watch’s elegant yet sophisticated look.

Bell & Ross BR V2-92 AÉRONAVALE

Similar in design to the Baume & Mercier Classima 10734, this Bell & Ross timepiece takes advantage off the beautiful color combination of blue and gold. A mix of Arabic and baton-style hour indices stand out well against the rich sunburst blue dial. The rotating steel bezel with the anodized blue aluminium ring has its 60-minute markings done in gold as well to match nicely with the colours of the dial. To finish off the “blue” look, the watch is fitted on a blue-coloured calfskin leather strap. With its simple and easy-to-read dial and elegant styling, it’s a great choice for any lovers of blue-coloured timepieces!

Bell & Ross BR S Steel Heritage

Bell & Ross’s BR S Steel Heritage uses the brand’s signature style of large Arabic numerals for the 3,9, and 12 indices combined with baton-style markers. These dial elements are beige, which stands out exceptionally well against the black dial. This is an ideal candidate for a simple timepiece with clear readability. The timepiece is fitted on a black calfskin strap with beige stitching to match the colours of the dial.

Bremont Terra Nova 40.5 Date

Bremont’s Terra Nova 40.5 is a simple three-hander with a date complication. I like this timepiece for its styling and colour combination. Brown and green combinations always work well, and Bremont has used them to make this timepiece as aesthetic as possible. The large hour indices also stand out well against the green dial, making it easily legible. What I also like is the date window. It has been design to fit in with the hour indices, with the white date wheel background, it blends in seamleseely with the dial’s other elements.

Citizen Series 8

When the Citizen Series 8 came out, it was a watch that watch enthusiasts and the world of horology very much loved. The timepiece features a luxurious design with a bi-coloured “Batman” bezel for the day and night indicator and a 24-hour time scale. The dial is also beautifully designed with a black checkered pattern to symbolise prosperity and a popular Tokyo design inspired by architectural windows. Furlan Marri Disco Celeste

Furlan Marri is bringing disco back with a trio of watches. The brand has drawn design inspiration from vintage timepeices to create an elegant modern timepiece. The Disco Celeste is the standout piece for me in this collection, thanks to the blue and white colour combination. The timepiece comes in a 38mm case that has large polished surfaces, which, when under light, will shine beautifully. If you want a timepiece on the smaller side, then the 38mm sizing will be a great choice.

Longines Hydroconquest

The Longines Hydroconquest in this beautiful sunray grey dial is one of the standout pieces on this list for me. I feel that Longines has done the Hydroconquest justice with this colour combination. Pairing rose gold with grey works exceptionally well for this timepiece. It doesn’t hurt that the sunray grey dial plays well with light to create an attractive dial. As this is a divers watch, the model also comes with a water resistance of 300m, giving the timepiece versatility when it comes to wearability.

Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic 39mm Limited Edition

Montblanc’s Star Legacy Automatic 39mm limited edition is another stand-out piece, thanks to its aesthetically pleasing dial. Firstly, we get the rich burgundy-coloured dial, which has a central glacier pattern (a reference to Montblanc’s heritage) and a sfumato effect around the outside. I also like how the brand has done away with the 6 o’clock hour indices to accommodate for the date window, which has a burgundy-toned date wheel to seamlessly fit in with the rest of the hour markers, offering an balanced look. This beautiful aesthetic is further enhanced with the filet sauté, rose gold-coated hands and numerals.

Montblanc Tradition Automatic Date 40mm

Another aesthetically pleasing dial from Montblack is the brand’s Tradition Automatic Date 40mm. The timepiece comes in a 40mm stainless steel case with straight horns, giving it a more elegant and luxurious appeal. The stunning blue dial features a a pattern in the centre, which is the topography of Mont Blanc, where the brand is situated near. The sharp sword hands and the silver-coloured Roman numerals contrast nicely against the blue to give an easy-to-ready artistic dial.

Oris Aquis Date

Oris’s Aquis Date is famous for being one of the more stylish affordable diving watches on the market today. The timepiece is offered in various colours and dial options. However, this green stands out due to its sunburst effect, which gives the dial a mix of dark green and rich, vibrant green colours. Oris’s designers have also reworked every single link on the bracelet to be more tapered so that it’ll be a comfortable fit on the wrist.

RADO Captain Cook Automatic

Another affordable diver’s model that is hard to look past is Rado’s Captain Cook Automatic. Rado makes several versions of their Captain Cook in different material finishes or with skeletonised dials to suit the various tastes and budgets. This particular version stood out from the rest, particularly due to its gradient blue and white dial. You have the centre of the dial starting in white, and as it gradually gets to the edge of the dial, we are treated to a deep blue finish. This is then continued onto the polished stainless steel bezel with a polished blue high-tech ceramic bezel insert. The stainless steel bracelet also stands out well thanks to the central links being a vertical brushed finish, while the outer links are polished.

Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver White

Raymond Weil’s Freelancer collection has a distinctive design, which is reflected in the sharp rectangular hands and hour indices, which provide a refined look on the dial. I especially like this Freelancer model due to its simplistic design and “pop” of colour. The white dial and blue bezel combination works well here, especially when paired with the five-link bracelet, which enhances the overall look of the watch to a much more luxurious finish.

Raymond Weil Millesime

Timepieces from Raymond Weil’s Millesime collection have been featured in many of our lists due to the simple fact that it’s an outstanding watch that shouldn’t be overlooked. This particular Millesime timepiece is one of my favourites from the brand. It comes with a salmon dial that will have everyone talking about how beautiful it is! However, when you look deeper into this simple three-hander watch, the minute details come to life, such as the smooth hour track, the snailed minute track, and the vertical brushed finishing of the central area of the dial.

Seiko recently unveiled the latest in their Prospex Diver series. This timepiece combines the iconic Seiko Samurai model and the Seiko Shogun timepeices. Taking design elements from both watches, Seiko released the “Shog-Urai” a few short months ago, a timepiece combining the best of both worlds. The beige hour markers and hands have been designed in a samurai sword style and stand out beautifully against the deep black dial. For how much the watch is priced at and what you get in return, it’s an excellent value-for-money watch!

Seiko

Prospex Marine Master Ice Blue SJE099

One of my favourite Seiko releases this year is the Proxpex Marine Master with the Ice Blue dial. This timepiece is a modern re-interpretation of the brand’s first-ever 1965 divers timepiece. This is another timepiece where the minor details are what makes this watch great value for money. The mix of brushed and polished surfaces on the case, bracelet and even the dial makes this timepiece glisten beautifully. Add to that that this timepiece is a divers watch, and you have the perfect candidate for a watch that your father would love to wear on a daily basis!

Baume & Mercier

Riviera (10770)

I’ve always admired the Baume & Mercier Riviera for its refined and stylistic design, and this latest 2024 version takes it up another notch. The Baume & Mercier Riviera is known for its signature design, whereby the dial has a transparent finish that allows a partial view of the movement. This transparency is also covered in a wave-like design, which is a reference to the Riviera model’s creative inspiration. This latest version of the Riviera now comes with a stunning green transparent dial, which is perfectly complemented by the gold hands and hour indices.

TAG Heuer

Aquaracer Pro 300m GMT Green Dial

This is the latest edition of TAG Heuer’s Aquaracer Collection. Released only a few short months ago, the Aquaracer Pro 300m GMT is available in two dial colours: blue or green. While the blue is beautiful in its own right, the green stands out, especially with the black night indicator on the bezel. The dial also has a wave pattern, a reference to it being a dive model, which I personally think stands out so well on the green dial! The added bonus of this timepiece is that not only is it a diver’s watch, but it’s also a traveller’s timepiece with the GMT function!

Among these releases were some beautiful ceramic models, with this particular model chosen for this guide being the blue ceramic. As Matt from WatchAdvice put it, “It’s safe to say that this latest version of the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton will leave a lasting impression in the hearts of watch lovers with its new deep, urban shade of late-night blue look.”

TAG Heuer

Carrera Glass Box Panda

I personally had the chance to wear this timepiece for a few weeks, and I absolutely loved it (keep an eye out for the review coming soon!). This timepiece was a no-brainer for this gift guide. The TAG Heuer Carrera Glass Box Panda comes with Carrera’s signature design styling with the sharp hour indices and hands, along with the sub-counters. However, besides the many different appealing details on this timepiece, what really drew me to this watch is the silver dial. It’s simply a beautifully finished dial that has a matte-like finish, which at different lighting angles turns into almost a cream-like colour!

Santos De Cartier Brown Dial

The timeless design of the Cartier Santos De Cartier got an upgrade this year at Watches & Wonders, with the timepiece now featuring a large brown dial. The dial’s vintage-style brown gradient dial is certainly the main talking point of this timepiece. Its gradient finish comes alive at different lighting angles, especially in the sun. Again, the timepiece’s signature square case with its Roman house indices makes this timepiece easily recognisable as a Cartier, now even more noticeable with the stunning brown dial!

Hublot

Classic Fusion Essential Grey

The full grey look of Hublot’s Classic Fusion Essential Grey may not appeal to everyone. However, the fathers who prefer the monochromatic look will surely be happy to do this on the wrist. The silver-grey sunburst dial is complemented nicely, but the grade 5 titanium case has a mixed polished and brushed finish. What I also like about this timepiece is the rubber strap. At first glance, it looks like a steel mesh strap. However, the top layer is a fabric mesh strap, giving the look of a mesh strap while offering the comfort of a rubber strap!

Montblanc

1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Limited Edition

One of my favourite Montblanc timepieces is the 1858 Geosphere. It’s cool enough to see the two hemispheres rotating once every 24 hours, and the brand has also made the timepiece as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Now, with the 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Limited Edition released during this year’s Watches & Wonders, the timepiece is another aesthetic upgrade. Firstly the dial has a unique pattern thanks to the mixture of carbon fibre and CACO3. The side of the case shows an engraving of Mont Blanc mountain in luminous blue. The case is finished with a beautiful image of Mont Blanc Mountain as well. And this is just purely the aesthetics. The timepiece also has zero oxygen retained in the case, thanks to the brand’s innovative technologies!

For the father figure in your life who loves sports and sports watches, this is a go-to timepiece! While the blue dial looks beautiful, this white dial version looks stunning as well, especially when paired with the green rubber strap. I’ve recently had the chance to try on the Polaris Geographic for a couple of days (keep an eye out for the review coming soon!), and I must say I was quite impressed with this timepiece, not only for the functionality of the watch but also because of the aesthetics. While the dial has its only visual artistry going on with the various finishes, what I really liked was the polished finish on the case and “bezel”, which made this timepiece glimmer surprisingly well under different lighting angles.

Then we have the constant seconds counter at 6 o’clock finished in another “light grey” colour. As you may know, the Reverso has two faces, which can be switched in an instant, giving the wearer ultimate versatility. The first “dial face” we get is the standard 3-hander in a beautiful sunburst blue dial for the more classic dress watch look. However, if you feel like showing off the watch’s prowess, turn the dial over to reveal a very aesthetically pleasing skeletonised chronograph dial! Two watches in one? It can’t get better than that!

The full timepiece is made from ceramic, which makes it extremely light while offering a contrasting appearance to the dial.

Hublot

Big Bang Unico Orange Ceramic

During Watches & Wonders this year, Hublot unveiled two new colours to the brand’s Big Bang Unico collection. The colours are in direct contrast to each other, with one being a dark “forest green”, while the other is a bright orange. Both models are offered in ceramic case and bezel with polished finishing, making the watches shine beautifully. My pick of the two is the orange model, with a skeletonised dial and ceramic case; why not show the watch off?

IWC Schaffhausen

Portugieser Perpetual Calendar

As we mentioned earlier, IWC Schaffhausen released their new Portugieser collection during Watches & Wonders this year in a host of dial colours. This includes the Perpetual Calendar collection, which received four new colours: Horizon Blue, Dune, Silver-plated or Obsidian. For me, the standout colour for this new Portugieser Perpetual Calendar is the Obsidian dial. The contrast of the deep, rich black dial against the 18-carat Armor gold case and dial elements is just simply too beautiful aesthetically to ignore!

Although we shouldn’t need a single day for it, just like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day is a special day to honour and appreciate the special men who have played a significant role in our lives. This is the time to express our unwavering support, love and gratitude. While sometimes our presence can be a gift in itself, many people have the luxury of being able to gift a luxurious timepiece that stands as a timeless gesture.

Watches have always been a symbol of sophistication and style, and when these timepieces are crafted in precious metals such as 18k red gold/pink gold, they exude a level of unmatched elegance. These types of watches can also resonate with the fathers in our lives. The visual appeal of red gold/pink gold watches signifies wealth and prestige, with these timepieces also being able to seamlessly blend with most attires, especially formal ones. Dads who have a taste for the finer things in life will surely appreciate a gold timepiece, a perfect blend of tradition, elegance and luxury.

Timepieces set with diamonds, on the other hand, offer more glamour and opulence. These diamonds shine brightly on any timepiece, giving a stunning, dazzling effect to an already beautiful watch. Diamond-set watches bring aesthetic glamour to what could otherwise be a technical masterpiece. For fathers who prefer to stand out from the crowd with eye-catching accessories, a diamond-set watch is an ideal choice.

Whether you are buying for yourself to celebrate the birth of your child this year or as a way of celebrating the special father in your life, presenting a watch is a timeless choice, especially one that has the allure of gold with the sparkles of diamonds. With this in mind, Watch Advice presents 20 watches that offer either red gold/pink gold cases or diamonds for that touch of elegance!

1.0 Audemars Piguet

Code 11.59 “Bleu nuit, Nuage 50 Dial

The Audemar Piguet Code 11.59 is the first timepiece on the list. It was released earlier this year to celebrate the model’s fifth anniversary. When Code 11.59 was first released, it certainly was disruptive to not only the brand but also the watch market. Since its introduction, more than 80 references have been released, which range from simple three-handers to minute repeaters and flying tourbillons. This latest model features Audemars Piguet’s newly designed case for 11.59, which still features Royal Oak’s signature 8-sided case design and now comes in a beautiful 18-carat pink gold case to complement the gorgeous “Bleu nuit, Nuage 50” patterned dial,

Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43

The Breitling Navitimer. Arguably, the most iconic timepiece in the brand’s collection now has an 18k red gold case, to give this highly sophisticated timepiece a touch of elegance. While we can tell the stunning Navitimer from some distance thanks to its reverse-panda look with the tri-counter layout, I can’t help but wonder how the 18k red gold case makes this watch look so much better!

The Laureato plays a huge part in Girard-Perregaux’s history, with the timepiece’s 50th anniversary just around the corner next year! What I do especially like about the Laureato is the Clous de Paris dial pattern, which helps to accentuate the Ultramarine blue on the dial, which also changes colours as it plays with light.

You could easily pass off any of these models as “dress watches” due to how sophisticated yet stylish these watches are. The Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase is no exception. The timepiece features a moon phase and large date apertures, complementing the simplistic yet elegant dial design, which is finished in a red gold case.

While Hublot has several models in the collection with 18k King Gold (Hublot’s own take on red gold material) and diamond-set cases, the Square Bang model really stood out due to its unique aesthetic factor. This bold design certainly isn’t for everyone, and that’s what makes it special. The 18k King Gold square case has been set with diamonds on the bezel to provide that glamorous aesthetic charm. IWC Schaffhausen released the whole Portugieser collection in four new colour variants, with this black “obsidian” dial being among the standout favourites. The deep black of the dial helps to perfectly contrast against the 18-carat 5N gold elements of the watch, which include the case, hands, hour indices, counters, and dial inscriptions. The end product is an attractive timepiece that any father would love to have on his wrist!

The timepiece’s chronograph has been intricately engineered so that when the chronograph starts, the first 9 seconds (approx.) mimics the first Porsche 911’s 0-100km/h time! Within the world of horology, skeleton timepieces stand out for their craftsmanship and the artistic side of the brand, allowing them to get creative with the dials displayed and show more than just the time and complications. Skeleton timepieces offer enthusiasts and collectors alike the chance to see the intricate mechanics behind what makes their watch tick. Skeleton timepieces peel back the layers behind the solid dial to reveal the gears, springs, and balance wheels that power the watch.

The skeleton watch was first invented by a Frenchman named Andre-Charles Caron in 1760, who would later become a clockmaker for King Louis XV. These were, of course, pocket watch designs, but regardless, Caron realised that having the dials of the watches exposed seemed to showcase a level of complexity and elegance that captivated the buyers of luxury goods in the 18th century.

Almost three centuries later, the way skeleton timepieces are perceived is no different. Some brands offer a slight glimpse into the inner workings of the movement, while others go all out in captivating the audience with a dial display of artistic elegance. In this article, we will showcase 20 watches, from entry-level luxury to haute horology, that display varying levels of skeletonised timepieces!

1. Seiko – Presage Japanese Garden

Seiko – Presage Japanese Garden

One of the simpler skeleton dials is the Seiko Presage Japanese Garden. It features a blue dial with two different dial patterns. The left side of the dial has vertical stripes mixed with diagonal stripes, while the left quarter features a sunburst pattern. The open-heart balance wheel is on show, providing just the right amount of skeletonisation on the timepiece without detracting from the dial’s beauty.

2. Mido – Multifort Skeleton Vertigo

Mido – Multifort Skeleton Vertigo

This Mido skeleton watch has it’s central dial portion skeletonised so that it has a nice balance between dial aesthetics and a view of the movement sitting underneath. This also allows the hour indices to stand out nicely, which can be one of the disadvantages of a skeleton watch, where the hour markers blend in with the skeletonised framework. The central skeleton portion has geneva stripes finishing as well.

8. Zenith Defy 21 Ultrablue

Zenith Defy 21 Ultrablue

One of my favourite skeleton-dial timepieces is the Zenith DEFY 21 Ultrablue. This timepiece brings the skeleton dial to life through colour, which in this case is the blue mainplate. While much of the movement is covered because of the tri-counter layout, the watch still retains a skeleton view from the dial. The main appeal of this timepiece, besides it’s technical standpoint, is the matte titanium DEFY case working well with the blue tones of the timepiece.

What’s Your Ultimate Three-Watch Collection? https://www.watchadvice.com.au/29865/whats-your-ultimate-three-watch-collection/ https://www.watchadvice.com.au/29865/whats-your-ultimate-three-watch-collection/#respond Mon, 24 Jun 2024 08:40:33 +0000 https://www.watchadvice.com.au/?p=29865 We asked the team here at Watch Advice, and here are their picks for a three-watch collection, where money is no object! (Ah we can dream can’t we?!)

If you’re a watch lover, and someone asks you, “If you could buy any watch in the world and you had unlimited funds, what three watches would you pick as your ultimate three-piece collection?” The answer usually starts along the lines of “That’s easy” followed by, “Hang on, maybe this one, oh wait, no this piece…” and so on. It is a ‘How long is a piece of string’ question, as there are so many choices out there! When we asked the Watch Advice team this exact question, the answers were along those lines, so we thought, why not have a good think about it, and then let’s pick three each and see what we all chose and why.

Matt’s Three Watch Collection

This was a hard one for me, as I’m traditionally more about functionality and versatility with my watches. But that’s me in real life now, but I’d like to think that with unlimited funds, then this would change substantially. In fact I know it would! But me being me, I would want to wear them all on a regular basis, so they need to be able to stand up to daily life. Hey, in this scenario I’ve now only got three watches to rotate across the week! So, here are my picks…

Greubel Forsey GMT Balancier Convexe

This is a grail of mine and one I would buy should I have the means to. It’s art and high horology at it’s best, and the best thing about this is, it’s a sports watch and designed to be worn with both form and function in perfect balance. With the curved case that hugs the wrist, the sports strap, curved sapphire crystal and that little globe spinning around to tell the world time, it is just a cool-looking watch.

GMT Balancier Convexe Specs

  • Dimensions: 43.5mm (at the base) x 17.4mm thick
  • Movement: Greubel Forsey Patented hand-wound movement
  • Material: Titanium
  • Power Reserve: 72hrs
  • RRP: US$400,000 (Approx A$600,000)

But the Greubel Forsey GMT Balancier Convexe is more than good looks. The GMT function is ingenious with a summer and winter time zone function, the balance is on a 30 degree incline, seemingly suspended in air by a single black bridge and the globe is constantly rotating on a 24-hour cycle, mimicking the Earth’s rotation. Oh, and it’s 100m water resistant, so it’s ready for that active life!

Panerai Luminor Perpetual Calendar Platinumtech

Now I know what you’re thinking. I can have any watch in the world and I choose a Panerai as one of my three. Well, the answer is yes as I’ve been a fan of Panerai since I can remember. In fact I’m wearing my 312 now as I write this. There is something about the unmistakable shape and design of a Panerai Luminor that I love, and given Panerai was one of my very first grail pieces over 10 years ago, I couldn’t have a three-watch collection without one. But, if I’m going in this direction, I want one with a complication or two, so the Perpetual Calendar in Platinumtech seems the right pick for me!

Luminor Perpetual Calendar Specs

  • Dimensions: 44mm x 53mm x 18mm thick
  • Movement: Automatic mechanical, Panerai P.4100 calibre
  • Material: Platinumtech
  • Power Reserve: 72hrs
  • RRP: A$108,600

The great thing about this perpetual calendar is that much of the functionality is on the caseback. Now this may seem weird, but on the front, you still have the Day, Date, Month (the 3rd hand indicates this) and timezone with AM/PM – so all the main useful functions you would want without altering the look of the dial aesthetic too much. The rest that you don’t need on a daily basis and used to set the watch is on the back. It’s a great blend of usability and technicality.

F.P.Journe Tourbillon Souverain Vertical

François-Paul Journe makes some incredible timepieces. With the attention to detail at all levels, his finishing is impeccable, even on parts that aren’t going to be seen with the eye. Hand Guilloched dials and expertly crafted parts all go together to make what is an F.P. Journe. And the Tourbillon Souverain Vertical is no exception featuring a vertically positioned tourbillon, hand guilloched dial, grand feu enamel dials for the time and deadbeat seconds, which was a first for F.P.Journe.

Tourbillon Souverain Vertical Specs

  • Dimensions: 42mm x 13.6mm thick
  • Movement: Manual wind Caliber 1519 with Hours, minutes, deadbeat seconds, power reserve indicator, 30-second vertical tourbillon, remontoire d’egalité
  • Material: Platinum or 18k 6N rose gold
  • Power Reserve: 80hrs
  • RRP: CHF 248,400 (approx A$418,000) Discontinued

The F.P.Journe Tourbillon Souverain Vertical is one special piece and one that not many people will know, or appreciate in the general watch world. But for those that know, know why it is special and the quality and craftsmanship you’re getting from one of the world’s best watchmakers. Plus it looks stunning on the wrist…

Mario’s Three Watch Collection

Listen, I’m a sucker for unusual watch designs. Don’t go rattling about a Rolex Submariner and saying that it’s better for the ‘practicality’ – any watch above $250 bucks has already thrown practicality out the window, and that’s me being generous. I don’t want this to sound like I hate expensive watches, but I instead love them for what they are – ultimate forms of artistic expression, made portable and ‘alive,’ in a manner of speaking. So, if I had an unlimited budget for three watches, why bother trying to ‘cover all bases,’ or ‘stick to what’s necessary?’ You have unlimited money! Don’t be boring! That’s why these three are on my list:

MB&F: Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO (Orange)

A perpetual calendar is one of the most complex and expensive complications on the planet. MB&F is one of my favourite brands, both aesthetically and mechanically. So of course I was going to combine the two! The LMP EVO in orange was one of the first haute horlogerie watches that jumped out at me when I first got a taste of what this world could offer, and I don’t think any watches have captured my imagination since.

LM Perpetual EVO Specs

  • Dimensions: 44mm x 50.2mm x 17mm thick
  • Movement: MB&F perpetual calendar, manual winding with double mainspring barrels.
  • Material: Zirconium
  • Power Reserve: 72hrs
  • RRP: 182,000 CHF (Approx $A$306,500)

Seeing Chamath’s LM101 in person almost made me scream, so seeing one of these would make me jump out of my seat like a KPOP fan. I did tell Chamath that I would be choosing the HM11 Architect over this one, but it’s the first watch that always gets you – and this has got me, bad.

Trilobe: Une Folle Journée (Blue)

Founded in 2018, Trilobe’s strange design is an immediate eye-catcher. ‘A watch with no hands?’ You may be saying. ‘Don’t you mean a bracelet?’ But the innovative use of rotating discs, accompanied by the symmetrical X-Centric micro-rotor movement, is a match made in heaven. I’m shocked I don’t see Trilobe talked about enough, especially since the price point seems reasonable in the context of their watchmaking quality.

Une Folle Journée Specs

  • Dimensions: 40.5mm x 48mm. 17.5mm thick (10.5 for the case, 7mm for crystal)
  • Movement: Calibre X-Centric, self-winding mechanical calibre with micro-rotor
  • Material: Grade 5 Titanium
  • Power Reserve: 48hrs
  • RRP: 23500€ (Approx $A$37,700)

Une Folle Journée just takes it a step further, by doming the crystal and exposing all the inner mechanics of every single disk. It’s a hypnotically camp design that is bound to draw endless attention and enjoyment from the user – as soon as they figure out what time it is.

Daniel Roth: Regulateur Tourbillon C187

In my first screening for the WatchAdvice writing position, Matt asked me ‘What would be your dream watch?’ My response was instant: Daniel Roth Regulateur Tourbillon, specifically reference C187. This has always and perhaps will forever be my dream watch – the odd yet elegant case shape, the two-minute tourbillon, the double-sided dial, the guilloché decorations, and the Roman numerals on an offset face…

Regulateur Tourbillon C187 Specs

  • Dimensions: 38mm x 35mm x 11mm
  • Movement: Tourbillon 1 minute manual winding
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Power Reserve: 42hrs
  • RRP: discontinued – limited to 20 pieces. A$338,205 (Chrono24)

It’s a highly complex watch, with a perfectly eclectic design and a hilariously insane level of engineering to back it all up – it’s the perfect watch for me. I’ve always said that, if I am ever able to purchase one watch that’ll get me out of the game forever, this is it. Of course, we’re still way too far off the saving goal at the moment – but a man can dream…

Sameera’s Three Watch Collection

When Matt asked me to choose three watches with an unlimited budget, I immediately thought of the watches on my grail list. But this is the more “achievable” list of watches. I got to thinking, well, if I had an unlimited amount to spend, would I still choose these timepieces? This sent me down quite the rabbit hole. However, I managed to compromise by still having grail pieces mixed with ultra-high-end luxury timepieces.

My thought process was that even though I had an unlimited amount to spend on these watches, I would still want to be able to wear them and not just store them away in some safe. For me, it’s about wearing and loving what the brands have spent countless hours designing, engineering and creating. With this in mind, I’ve split the three timepieces into daily, weekender, and “for a special event.”

Daily Wear

Audemars Piguet – Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph

Audemars Piguet – Royal Oak Offshore (Ref. 26420CE.OO.A043VE.01)

This version of the Royal Oak Offshore is a watch that is on my grail list. Even though I would have unlimited money, this watch will always be in the collection regardless. While it may seem like a boring choice to some, for me, it’s the ideal daily wear timepiece. The colour combo is spot on for me, as I love the blue, black and white colour combination. As a daily wearer, the watch fits nicely as a luxury sports piece, making it a versatile choice for most outfits. It’s not an understated piece, that’s for sure, and will certainly be a great conversation starter. Having the choice of changing between a rubber strap and a leather strap also makes it comfortable to wear, another point to consider when choosing a daily wear timepiece.

Royal Oak Offshore Specifications

  • Dimensions: 43mm x 14.4mm thickness
  • Movement: Calibre 4401
  • Material: Black Ceramic
  • Power Reserve: 70hrs
  • RRP: Approx. $85,750 AUD

This version of the Royal Oak Offshore has a 43mm black ceramic case paired with a stunning blue ceramic bezel. The chronograph push buttons and winding crown are also blue, allowing the watch to repeatedly contrast the black and blue colours to a “stylish effect.”

The Weekender

Roger Dubuis – Knights Of The Round Table Titanium Damascus

Roger Dubuis – Knights Of The Round Table Titanium Damascus

The choice for the weekender timepiece was certainly tough. When you move away from a “daily” wear timepiece, and its restrictions, the haute horology world opens up with a vast number of highly complicated and intricate timepieces. One model that came to mind instantly, and I found a hard time trying to think past it, was a variation of the iconic Knights Of The Round Table by Roger Dubuis. I mean, does it get any cooler than 12 knights ready to fight on your timepiece?

Knights Of The Round Table Titanium Damascus Specifications

  • Dimensions: 45mm
  • Movement: Cal. RD821
  • Material: Titanium Damascus
  • Power Reserve: 48 hours
  • RRP: Approx. $562,700 AUD

This particular version has a Titanium Damascus case, with 12 pink-gold knights facing an icey centre, ready to fight what is about to break out of the frozen lake. The ice is made from unique Limoges biscuit porcelain, while the lake underneath is made from the Murano glass technique. Each of the 12 knights has its own unique expression and fighting pose, making this timepiece both a technical and aesthetic masterpiece.

The “Special Event”

Breguet – Classique Complications 3795

Breguet – Classique Complications 3795

This timepiece, for me, is one that, as the name suggests, is reserved for a special occasion. A fancy dinner, black tie event or anything formal. I wanted to keep this timepiece more “traditional” in the sense of showing pure complications and let that be the aesthetic feature of the timepiece. For this category, three brands came to mind: Louis Moinet, Bovet and Breguet. All three brands make watches that are insanely complicated, especially Bovet. However, Breguet’s Classique Complications 3795 was the winner, with its beautifully skeletonised balanced dial showcasing the brand’s technicality and attention to detail, all in pure mechanical art form.

Classique Complications 3795

  • Dimensions: 41mm x 11.6mm thickness
  • Movement: Cal. 558T
  • Material: 18-carat rose gold
  • RRP: $451,200 AUD

The Breguet Classique Complications 3795 is offered in either an 18-carat rose gold or platinum case. The 18-carat rose gold, I feel, offers a nice colour contrast to the dial, with the platinum model mostly blending in with the dial aesthetics. The two main stand-out complications are the tourbillon and the perpetual calendar. There are retrograde dates indicated at 12 o’clock, days at 9 o’clock, months and leap years at 3 o’clock and small seconds on the tourbillon axis. While it may not host as many complications as its competitors, the dials’ skeletonised aesthetics of the complications is pure artistry.
